4/6-4/9

Week 3, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies, students will be finishing up Chapter 10 with a chapter test, and beginning Chapter 11, Modern Mississippi.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: No school
Tuesday: Students will have boot camp on this day.
Wednesday: Students will have an open book test today on Chapter 10.  After the test, students will be given the vocabulary for chapter 11 to begin.  Vocab is due Friday.  Students will also be given a copy of all counties in the state of MS.  Students will have a counties test and will have to label the map on Wednesday, April 14th.
Thursday: Students will have boot camp on this day.
Friday: Students will cover chapter 11, section 1 today.  They will answer the Reviewing the Section questions on page 297, complete the Guided Reading for section 1, and complete a Famous Mississippians worksheet for homewor

3/29-4/2

This week in MS Studies/Intro to Geography we will be finishing up Chapter 10: the Civil Rights Movement.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will finish up Chapter 10 Section 3 today and complete the Reviewing the Section questions at the end of the section on page 286 of the textbook. Students will also be given a Road to Civil Rights packet to complete in class.  
Tuesday: Students will be in boot camp today.  They have been given an assignment "Letter from Birmingham" worksheet to complete and a homework sheet "I Have a Dream" worksheet for homework.  
Wednesday: Students will watch Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech today, as well as have a short review for a Chapter 10 test that will be given on Wednesday, April 7th. Students will be given a packet of information that will help them study and prepare for their upcoming test entitled "Civil Rights Movement".
Thursday: Students will be in boot camp today.  Students need to complete the packet "Civil Rights Movement" and study for the chapter 10 test on Wednesday, April 7th.  
Friday: No school!!  Happy Easter!!!!

3/1-3/5

Monday: Students will complete the chapter by covering section 3 of chapter 9 today.  The guided reading for this chapter should be completed today as it will be used for the study guide for the chapter test on Wednesday.  Students will also receive a worksheet and article to complete on the NAACP that will be turned in for homework tomorrow if it is not completed in class.  Students should also complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions on page 260 of the textbook.
Tuesday: Students will review for test today!  Guided reading should be completed today. Study study study!!!!
Wednesday: Students will have a unit on chapter 9 today.  As the students complete the test, they will receive their Nine Weeks Test Project. to begin working on.
Thursday: Students will be out of the classroom today to take Benchmark Science testing.  
Friday: Students will be given time today to work in class on their Nine Weeks Test Project.  

2/8-2/12

Monday: Students will have a power point presentation and a timeline to review.  Students will be given 2 or 3 important dates to complete a worksheet on.  If the students do not complete this assignment, they will complete it for homework.
Tuesday: Students will go through another power point presentation today and complete a worksheet on Women's Suffrage Notes.  Students will then be given a packet of papers to complete and finish for homework.  
Wednesday: Students will be put into groups today to analyze documents for being anti women's suffrage or pro women's suffrage.  Arguments and rebuttals will be made for each side.  Students will also be given 3 posters to analyze for homework.  
Thursday: Students will review today for a chapter test on Friday!  Study study study!!
Friday: Chapter test on the Women's Suffrage Movement today!  As the students complete the test, they will begin vocabulary for Chapter 9.  

2/1-2/5

Monday: Students will be given a timeline of important events today that we will go over in class. Students will also receive their vocabulary for this unit.  The vocabulary will be due on Wednesday.  Homework will also be given, a Readworks article, "American Women Get the Vote in 1920."
Tuesday: Students will be out today due to Science Benchmark Testing 
Wednesday: Students will complete group work today on source documents from the era of women trying to gain the right to vote.  Students will also be given a worksheet to complete "The Fight for Women's Suffrage Worksheet." to be completed for homework. 
Thursday: Students will study Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton today. A packet of info will be given and gone over in class for the students to complete for homework.  Students will also have a Readworks Article to complete, "19th Amendment"
Friday: Students will be given a mock test to complete today.  They may finish it for homework if they don't finish it in class.  They will also have an article to complete "The Fight for Women's Suffrage"

1/25/-1/29

Monday: Students will present projects and creative originals done by the students on the Amendment they were assigned. 
Tuesday: Students will be taking the ELA Benchmark Test today.
Wednesday: Students will present projects and creative originals done by the students on the Amendment they were assigned. 
Thursday: Students will be taking the Math Benchmark Test today.
Friday: Students will present projects and creative originals done by the students on the Amendment they were assigned. 

1/19-1/22

Tuesday: Students will cover chapter 8, section 3 today in class.  Students will be given a vocabulary review worksheet to complete after the lecture that may be finished for homework if not completed in class.  Students must also complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions on page 233.  Students also need to be working on their Amendment Project that is due on Monday, Jan 25th.
Wednesday: Students will have an in class article to read on the Great Migration, as well as a section in their textbook.  Students will have an assignment to complete after finishing the readings.  Students will also have an activity on the Jim Crow laws that were passed during this time of history.  Students may finish both of these assignments for homework if they are not completed in class.  Students must also answer the 2 Developing Critical Thinking questions on page 235.
Thursday: Students will review today for a chapter 8 test that will be given on 
Friday: Students will take a test today on Chapter 8.  Students will also turn in their Guided Reading from Chapter 8 today for a grade.  After the test, students will be given time to work on their Amendment Project.  It is due on Monday!!

11/30-12/4

Monday and Tuesday: Chapter 7, Section 1 will be covered.  A guided reading was given today for the students to complete as we complete each section of the chapter.  Students were also given a homework sheet of vocabulary words to define. An at home assignment was also sent for the following day, a worksheet of fill in the blanks.  Students will also need to answer the 3 Reviewing the Section questions on page 197 of the textbook.  
Wednesday and Thursday: Chapter 7, Section 2 will be covered today.  A second vocabulary list will be given to be defined and a homework sheet, The Bourbon Era: Reading Comprehension will also be assigned for an at home learning assignment.  Students will also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions on page 202 of the textbook.  
Friday: Students will make a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the 4 constitutions of Mississippi for their virtual at home assignment.  

11/16-11/20

Monday: Students will have a vocabulary test today! Study for upcoming chapter test on Wednesday and Civil War Project will be due on Thursday!!  Chapter 6 study guide is due tomorrow.
Tuesday: Chapter 6 study guide is due today.  Students will review for test on Wednesday. Study, study, study!!!
Wednesday: Test today on Chapter 6.
Thursday: Civil War Battle Project due today!!
Friday: Students will spend the day watching Civil War videos.  Happy Thanksgiving!!!

11/2-11/6

Monday: Students will visit a few websites and read first hand accounts from slave journals and articles written on housing, furnishings, etc.  The students will be given the websites, and they are also listed on the students Canvas.
Tuesday: Students will be taking a Benchmark ELA test today and will not be in the classroom.
Wednesday: Students will cover chapter 5, section 3 today.  Guided reading for this section of the chapter should be completed today in class, if not complete for homework.  Students will also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 on page 149.  Students have also been given a study guide to work on during the week that must be completed by Friday for review of the test.  
Thursday: Students will discuss the Electoral College and the Election of 1860 and watch a short video detailing some key factors that contributed to the start of the Civil War.  They will be given the remainder of the class period to work on their study guides.  
Friday: The class will go over the study guide to ensure that all notes and answers are correct for studying purposes.  TEST MONDAY!!!!!
 
 

10/26-10/30

Monday: Students will cover section 1 of the chapter today in class.  Students will answer the 3 Reviewing the Section Questions at the end of the section on page 132.  Students will also work on their Guided Readings for the section as we move through the material in class today, but if the students do not finish this section in class today, they will need to complete it for homework tonight.  Students also received a worksheet on the differences between the North and South for homework.  
 
Tuesday: Students will not be in class today due to Science Benchmark Testing.
 
Wednesday: Students will cover section 2 in class today.  Students will need to answer the 3 Reviewing the Section Questions at the end of the section on page 143. Students will also need to make sure they have completed the Guided Reading for Section 2 that was covered in class today.  Students will also be given a worksheet of short answer questions about the chapter that have been covered thus far. Make you own country project is due!
 
Thursday: Students will not be in class today due to Math Benchmark Testing.
 
Friday: Students will work today on an online assignment, Webquest. Students will also have a vocabulary review worksheet to complete in class, but if not finished it will be finished for homework.

10/19-10/23

Monday: Students will talk a little about the Dredd Scott case that we discussed on Friday, do an in class assignment on the Louisiana Purchase, and have a homework sheet, Using Primary Sources.  
Tuesday: Students will be introduced to their new project, Building Your Own Country.  Students will be creating their own unique country, complete with rules, a flag, and a place on the map. This project is not due until Thursday, October 30th. Students will then have an interactive learning assignment on the raids led by John Brown.  Students will use the website provided to complete the timeline.  A homework sheet will also be given on the 3 Compromises discussed in the chapter.  
Wednesday:  Students will have a political cartoon interpretation exercise to begin the class today.  Students will be given a study guide to complete for the upcoming test on Friday.  Students will need to have this study guide completed for class on Thursday.  
Thursday: Students will review for Chapter 4 test on Friday. Study, study, study!!!
Friday: Students will take a Chapter 4 test today.

10/12-10/16

Monday: Students will be given their chapter summaries for Chapter 4.  Section 1 should be completed today as we move through the section.  For homework the students will define the vocabulary and answer the reviewing the section questions 1-3 on page 102.  
 
Tuesday: Students will dig into section 2 of the chapter and must complete the chapter summary for section 2 today as we navigate throughout the chapter.  Students will also read the special interest section on pages 103-104.  Students will be given a ciphered letter to interpret.  Interpretations must be at least 1/2 page in length.  Students will also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 on page 111.  A worksheet will also be given for homework, the Role of Compromises.
 
Wednesday: Class discussion will continue today on Aaron Burr and his conspiracy.  We will read his treason trial.  Students will then be given a worksheet to complete on what was read.  If this is not finished in class, students may complete this for homework.  Students will also be given  worksheet with some short answer questions about what was read and discussed in class.  
 
Thursday: Section 3 will be discussed today and the guided reading for this section will need to be completed today.  A vocabulary review sheet will also be given.  If not finished in class, this will be completed for homework.  Students will also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 on page 119 for homework.  
 
Friday: Students will be introduced to the Dredd Scott case today.  We will read a short biography and discuss what life was like for these slaves.  We will then discuss the Dredd Scott decision and the outcome.  Students will then write 2 editorials in response to this case, one from a post slavery perspective, the other from a anti-slavery Northern perspective.  Students will also have a short question worksheet to complete for homework.
