<div>This week, we will continue to review for benchmark. Our ELA benchmark is <strong>next Tuesday</strong>, so we are making sure to hit the important standards. We will be focusing on all the power standards studied which contain:</div>
<div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>1. Summary (summing up the main parts of a text)</div>
<div>2. Central idea (the main idea of a text) and supporting details (evidence used to find the central idea of text)</div>
<div>3. Theme (the lesson or moral of the story; ex. "Never give up," Love conquers all," etc.</div>
<div>4. Citing&nbsp;</div>
<div>5. Inferences (make an <strong>educated guess</strong> based on prior knowledge and textual evidence (quotes/evidence from the text). Examples of making an inference: Pinocchio's nose grows when he tells people that he has gone to school. Our inference is that he is not telling the truth because we already know his nose grows when he does not tell the truth.</div>
<div>6. Citing- Finding evidence in the text to support your answer</div>
<div>7. Key events, individuals, ideas (important details about an event, individual, or idea)</div>
<div>8. Figurative language (Something used as non literal language. Ex. I could eat a horse. This does not mean someone will literally eat a horse; it means they are hungry, so they could eat much food at that time.)</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Our writing this week will focus on W.6.1-Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Monday and Tuesday homework both contain questions that have the above standards mentioned with a short informative text to read for each day.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Bell ringers, vocabulary cartoons, homework, and homework calendar are attached.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Also, we will have a quiz on academic vocabulary words Friday. I will attach the words as well.&nbsp;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Have a great week!</div>
