Description
Cyber Foundations is a fun and interactive class that will begin to teach your child all about the world of technology.  Even though they have been working on computers for a few years, this year will begin to show the correct way to type, create documents, spreadsheets, HTML code, and many other interesting things associated with technology.  They will also learn many other things, such as digital citizenship and how to conduct themselves responsibly and in a manner acceptable to others and themselves.

Week 6, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are continuing to work in our Code.org resource to learn and enhance our websites to include CSS and style components.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Today students will continue to learn new codes for styles such as underline, changing fonts, and text alignment.  
Tuesday: Students will be taking the MATH State Assessment today. 
Wednesday: Students will be taking the 2nd part of the MATH State Assessment today.  Todays test should not take as long as Tuesday, therefore we will use the remainder of this day to do our Moby Max assignments for Ms. Gaylord.
Thursday: Today students will jump back into their websites and continue to learn new code that will add style and character to their websites.  After completing all the exercises in Code.org, the students will be given a worksheet to complete that will help them add style to their own personal websites.  
Friday: Students will spend the day today working on their websites and adding style to their personal websites.

Week 5, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are continuing to create websites.  The students have chosen a topic and written a title, introduction paragraph, 3 subheadings, 3 paragraphs of information, and a list for their topic.  This week we are adding some style and learning all about CSS and CSS Selectors.  The assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Students will take notes and complete journal entry #10 today.  Begin talking about what CSS is....
Tuesday: Students will start to play around with CSS and discover how this special kind of code is written.  We will walk through several examples and sample pages.
Wednesday: Students will complete journal entry #11 and work bubbles 4-7 in code.org.
Thursday: Students will work on a Moby Max assignment for Ms. Gaylord.  While they are doing this assignment, journal entries will be checked for 6-10.  A homework sheet will also be given today.  
Friday: Students will work through Lesson 6 in Code.org until they reach bubble 12 learning about CSS.

Week 4, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are digging even deeper into Code.org and learning all kinds of new code and HTML to create our own websites!  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Students will learn how to code lists in HTML and have journal writing #8 today.  Students will spend class time working on their own individual websites and writing code.
Tuesday: Students will spend the class period today working on their websites and writing specific code for their content. 
Wednesday: Students will work today in Code.org on what a digital footprint is and how it applies to our lives.  Students will complete an activity in class Social Sleuth and have a homework paper paper to finish, When Does Your Privacy Matter??
Thursday: Students will work on Cohort activities today.
Friday: Students will be given a test grade today on their websites and have a timed typing test today.

Week 3, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations, we will continue to work in Code.org and learning how to write and interpret HTML.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: No school!
Tuesday: Students will continue to work in Code.org on debugging, learning new code and special codes, and fixing mistakes.
Wednesday: Students will continue through the Code.org lessons and begin to work on their own websites today.
Thursday: Students will work on Cohort activities and Moby Max assignments given by Ms. Gaylord.
Friday: Students will complete their website planning guides and code for the layout of their personal webpages.

Week 2, 4th Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are still working on learning HTML code and also learning how to properly apply it in computer applications to make things, such as websites.  The assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will be working in Code.org and have a homework sheet of vocabulary and tags to review for a vocab test on Wednesday!
Tuesday: Students will be working in Code.org today on headings and debugging.  Study for a vocab and tag test on Wednesday!!  
Wednesday: Students will take a Timed typing test today and also have a vocabulary and tag test. 
Thursday: Students will work today on Cohort activities sent by Ms. Gibbs, as well as work on Moby Max assignments given by Ms. Gaylord.
Friday:  No school!!  Happy Easter!!!

Week 7, 3rd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will be continuing our unit on Personal Digital Finance.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will complete worksheets from last weeks lessons on Managing your Money.  
Tuesday: Students will begin Unit 3: Using Credit using AES Education.  Lesson 1: Consumer Credit will be covered today and the students will be given worksheets to accompany this lesson.
Wednesday: Students will work on Cohort Lessons sent by Ms. Gibbs today.
Thursday: Students will cover Lesson 2: Borrowing Money today.  Worksheets will be given to accompany this lesson as well.  Students will also have a timed typing test today.  
Friday: Students will be given time today to complete the worksheets for Lessons 1 and 2 of Unit 3.  Towards the end of the class, students may begin a review of material to prepare for Nine Weeks test that will be on Wednesday of the following week.

Week 6, 3rd Nine Weeks

Students will be spending time this week look at Personal Financial Literacy.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will cover how to read a paystub and complete the worksheet that accompanies it.
Tuesday: Students will cover introduction to banking and complete the worksheet that accompanies it.  They will also have a homework sheet on how to read a bank statement.
Wednesday: Students will work on Cohort activities sent by Ms. Gibbs. 
Thursday: Students will cover budgets and complete the worksheet that accompanies it.  Students will also have a homework sheet that applies to budgeting.  
Friday: Students will cover informed purchases and complete the worksheet that accompanies it.  Students will also have a homework sheet that applies to reading a bank statement.

Week 5, 3rd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will be finishing up our unit on Microsoft Excel.  Then we will be diving into our unit on personal finance.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday and Tuesday: Students will spend these two days working on an Activity using all the lessons on Microsoft Excel that we have learned over the past several weeks. Some of the students will finish sooner than others and they will working on typing while everyone finishes.  
Wednesday: Students will work on ISP Planning (2026 Cohort activities) that are sent to them by Ms. Gibbs.  
Thursday:  Students will log into AES Educations to begin our lessons on Personal Financial Literacy.  Lesson 1 will be covered today on Earning Potential.  Students will receive worksheets to accompany this lesson.
Friday: Students will log into AES Education to continue the unit on Personal Financial Literacy.  Lesson 2 will be covered today on types of income.  Students will receive worksheets for accompany this lesson also.

Week 4, 3rd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will be finishing up our unit on Microsoft Excel  I am excited to finish this up and move on to more exciting things.  The students have enjoyed Excel.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Students will complete Activity 18 today and turn in on canvas.  
Tuesday:  Students will work on Activities 19, 20, and 21 today on summations, adding sales tax, and creating a budget.  
Wednesday: Students will work on Cohort assignments sent by Dr. Gibbs, the Guidance Counselor.
Thursday: Students will have a timed typing test today and complete activities 24 and 25.  
Friday: Students will complete our final Microsoft Excel Activity, 32 today for a test grade.

Week 3, 3rd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will continue to work on Microsoft Excel lessons.  We finished up our lessons on charts and are moving into simple formulas.  The assignments and activities for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will complete activities 10 and 11 on simple formulas.  
Tuesday: Students will take ELA Benchmark Tests today.
Wednesday: Students will continue to work on Excel Activities 12, 13, and 14.
Thursday: Students will take Math Benchmark Tests today.  
Friday: Students will complete activity 15 on Microsoft Excel, as well as complete any other activities from the week they may not have completed.

Week 2, 3rd Nine Weeks

Welcome back!!  I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break with your family and that Santa was good to each and every one of you!  School is officially back in session and we are ready to get started on a brand new year.  This week in Cyber Foundations we will be continuing with Microsoft Excel.  We had started to look at spreadsheets before Christmas break, but now we are digging in deep with different types of charts and other fun activities.  Homework and activities for the week are as follows:
Monday: No school!
Tuesday: Students will work on activities 4, 5, and 6 and review for a test scheduled for Wednesday. Study notes and vocab!!
Wednesday: Students will take a test today on Excel vocab and notes.  Students will also take a timed typing test today.  After the test, students will continue with activities 4 - 7.
Thursday: Students will complete activities 7 & 8.
Friday: Students will complete activity 9 for a test grade.  This will complete our section on charts for Microsoft Excel.

Week 8, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will be bringing this nine weeks to a close. Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday and Tuesday:  Students will do an intro activity using Microsoft Excel as a class and review for a test on Wednesday and Thursday.  
Wednesday and Thursday: Students will take a short test on Microsoft Excel vocab and intro notes.  Also, students who are not exempt will be given study guides for the nine weeks exam.  
Friday: Please study and prepare for the nine weeks exam if you are not exempt!  If you are, please have a happy and safe Christmas break!!!!!

Week 7, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are starting our journey into Microsoft Excel.  With A/B days returning we will not get as much covered, so the next two weeks will be a good introduction into what Excel is all about.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday and Tuesday: Vocabulary list was sent home today.  A test will be given next Wednesday on these terms.  A homework sheet was also sent home using the vocabulary words.  
Wednesday and Thursday: Continuing introduction to Excel and formulas.  Homework sheet was sent home, vocabulary #2.
Friday: At home learning day, all students should spend 30 minutes practicing typing in Edutyping.

Week 6, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations, we will spend the week working on the correct format of writing a paper in MLA format in Microsoft Word. The assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will finish a test from Friday and work on Microsoft Word Activity 11. No homework.
Tuesday: Begin going over the writing process and choose topic for paper. No homework.
Wednesday: Continue the writing process.  No Homework.
Thursday: Revising and begin final copy of paper along with works cited page.  No homework.  
Friday: Students will submit final papers.  Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Week 5, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are still working in Microsoft Word completing lessons in AES and doing activities in the application.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will work on completing activities 8 and 9 in Microsoft Word and Unit 3 in AES Education.  No homework. 
Tuesday: Students will complete Activity 10 in class today for a test grade.  This activity is a review of activities 1-9. No homework.
Wednesday and Thursday: Students will review though all worksheets in AES to prepare for a test on material learned through AES on Friday.  Study study study!!!!!
Friday:  Test today on AES Microsoft Word lessons.

Week 4, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are still working on Microsoft Word lessons and activities.  The students enjoy these lessons and learn best by digging into the activities and learning by doing.  The assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will be given list 2 vocab words today.  There will be a vocabulary test next Monday!  New worksheets for AES are assigned for Unit 2: Working with Tables.  Students will also begin Activity 8 on Microsoft Word.
Tuesday: Students will be taking ELA Benchmark Assessment today.  Students that do come to class will be working in Moby Max on lessons assigned by Mrs Gaylord.
Wednesday: Students will complete Activity 8 today and begin Unit 3 in AES: Completing a Report Using MLA and completing the worksheets that accompany it.  Students will also have a vocabulary worksheet to complete for homework.
Thursday: Students will complete AES lessons today and complete Activity 9 to submit through Canvas.  Vocabulary test will be MONDAY!!
Friday: Students will complete Activity 10 today for a test grade!!!  Vocab test on Monday!!

Week 3, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we are still working hard in Microsoft Word.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will continue working in AES on Microsoft Word Unit 2 Editing and Review Tools.  Worksheets will need to be completed for homework if not completed in class.  Students will also keep working in Microsoft Word activities 3 and 4.
Tuesday: Students will be given a vocabulary list today for Microsoft Word terms.  There will be a vocabulary test on Friday on these words!  Activities 3 and 4 are due today.  Students will also begin AES Lessons today on Word 2: Fundamentals and complete the worksheets.  There will be a homework vocabulary sheet for homework!
Wednesday: Students will complete Microsoft Word activities 5, 6, and 7 today.
Thursday: Students will be out of the classroom today for benchmark math testing.  Those who are in class will work on assignments in Moby Max assigned by Ms. Gaylord and Coach Rouse.  
Friday: Students will take a vocabulary test and  a timed typing test today.  After that, they will work on any assignments, lessons, or activities that they may not have completed throughout the week.  No homework.

Week 2, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Cyber Foundations we will begin learning all about Microsoft Word.  This is a great unit for the students, as they learn how the program works by learning terms and rules for the program.  They also begin completing activities in the application and learn how to do things hands on.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Students will spend today reviewing for a test on digital literacy, digital communication, and online safety.  Study, study, study!!
Tuesday:  Students will take a test today and a timed writing test.  As they finish the test, students will begin the next unit on Microsoft Word. No homework.
Wednesday:  Students will continue lessons in AES on Microsoft Word. No homework.
Thursday: Students will complete Activities 1 and 2 in Microsoft Word in class today.  No homework.
Friday: Students will work on the next set of worksheets in AES Unit 2 on Microsoft Word.  No homework.

Week 1, 2nd Nine Weeks

Its 2nd Nine Weeks and we are starting out the week in Cyber Foundations with a bang!  Students will jump into lessons this week on Our Digital World, Ethical Use of Resources, Personal communication as well as workplace communication, and some online safety.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday: We will review lessons covered at the end of first Nine Weeks, Our Digital World and Ethical Use of Resources and go over worksheets completed.
Tuesday: Students will jump into video lessons today and complete the lesson guides as they navigate throughout the videos on personal digital communication, workplace digital communication, and cyberbullying.  
Wednesday: Students will continue working in Unit 2 on lessons assigned on Tuesday.  As students complete lesson 2, they will begin lesson 3 on Online safety: Digital Footprint and Protecting Yourself Online.  Students will also be given a Digital Citizenship Scenarios worksheet to complete for homework.  
Thursday: Students will need to make sure all lessons assigned on Tuesday and Wednesday are completed by today.  All worksheets should be complete by the end of class today.  If completed, the students will have a Readworks Article: Using Cell Phones and Computers to Transmit Information to complete.  If this is not completed in class, the students will need to complete it for homework.  
Friday: Students will review all worksheets and lessons for a test on Monday!!  Study Study Study!!!!

This week in Cyber Foundations we will spend the majority of the week working on our Nine Weeks Test Project.  Students will be given careers to do a Google Slide Show Presentation about and may even dress as their potential career.  They will be given time in class to work on this project and we will plan to present them on Friday, Monday and Tuesday of next week.  The exam schedule for the week is as follows:

Thursday: Math
Friday: Computer and History

Week 7

This week in Cyber Foundations we are trying hard to adjust to all the kids being here every day and transition from the A/B schedule days.  We will be covering some new material this week, taking a test, and working on a project to complete by the end of the week.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will receive notes today on input and output systems of a computer.  Students should study these notes, notes on being aware of what we share, and also notes on the problem solving process for a test tomorrow!  Study study study!!!
Tuesday: Students will take a test today on the computing parts of a computer, being aware of what we share, and the problem solving process.  When they finish the test, students will be given an article and questions to answer. If they do not finish, they will finish the article and questions for homework.  
Wednesday:  Students will begin working today on their APP Project today.  Students will use the problem solving process to complete this project.  Students may also make a poster board to accompany their project for extra credit!!!  Up to 10 points added to a test grade!!  No homework tonight!
Thursday: Students will complete their App Project today.  No homework tonight!
Friday: Students will log onto AES Education today and complete the lesson Our Digital World and complete the worksheets that accompany it.  If the students do not complete these worksheets, they are to be completed for homework.  Also, if the students are making a poster board for extra credit, it is due today!!!

This week in Cyber Foundations is going to be a fun and exciting week for our students!  We are fastly approaching the end of the nine weeks so please check with you child on grades and making sure that assignments are being completed and turned in.  The assignments and homework for the week are as follows: 
Monday (A Day):  Students will continue to work in their Problem Solving packets on planning a trip and completing the word search for homework.  Students will also begin to build their aluminum foil boats in class.
Tuesday (B Day): Students will begin the Problem Solving Process and help to resolve several problems in class.  They will then be given packets and told to complete the Birthday Guests worksheet for homework.
Wednesday: (A day) - Its boat testing day!!!  Students will be able to see how many pennies their boats will hold, be given the opportunity to make any changes, and then have a second test on their boat to see if they improved it any.  Fun Day!!

I hope that everyone enjoyed an extra day with friends and family over the weekend and had a great Labor Day!  We have a short week this week, but will still be working hard in Cyber Foundations to cover all the material we need to cover this week.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Tuesday: B day - Students will take a test today on parts of a computer, digital footprint, and a blank keyboard.
Wednesday: A day - Being Aware of what you share - Students till have an in class assignment, Ad Detective.  If this activity is not finished in class, students will finish for homework.  Students will also be given 2 at home worksheets to complete, History of Social Media and History of Cell Phones.  All three of these assignments are due on Friday.  
Thursday: B day - Being Aware of what you share - Students till have an in class assignment, Ad Detective.  If this activity is not finished in class, students will finish for homework.  Students will also be given 2 at home worksheets to complete, History of Social Media and History of Cell Phones.  All three of these assignments are due on Tuesday.

This week in Cyber Foundations will be a full week packed with work!  We are adjusting to our A/B days and finally feeling like we are in a routine.  We will jump into vocab this week that is the parts of a computer, learn a little about a digital footprint, and label a keyboard to prepare for a test on Friday.  The assignments for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Truth Be Told worksheet to be finished for homework if not finished in class, vocabulary matching worksheet for at home learning activity.  
Tuesday: Truth Be Told worksheet to be finished for homework if not finished in class, vocabulary matching worksheet for at home learning activity. 
Wednesday: Students will be given a blank keyboard to color code and fill in letters, finish for homework if not finished in class.  Study for vocab, digital footprint, notes for proper body posture, and blank keyboard test on Friday!  We will also have a 2nd timed typing test that day.

This week in Cyber Foundations we will continue to look into Digital Citizenship and everything that is involved in that topic.  The students are also working hard on their typing and will take their first Timed Typing Test for me this week, as well as their first Unit test on Phishing, Cyberbullying, and some key terms for Keyboarding.  Please make sure that your child is keeping up with their Canvas and are submitting any and all assignments that are assigned in class and through Canvas.  Make sure that your child is accessing Canvas through the Clever portal on the Scott County Website.  Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: A day - Students will have a timed typing test and unit test on Wednesday!  Study study study!!
Tuesday: B day - Students will make a card for a bully, a target, or an upstander or bystander.  They also have a worksheet for homework Sondra's Story.  
Wednesday: A day - Students will take both tests today!
Thursday: B day - Students will have a timed typing test and unit test on Friday!  Study study study!!
Friday: B day - Students will take both tests today!
