Mississippi Studies is a one semester course designed to foster appreciation for the state, its history and its culture. The course traces Mississippi's economic transition from agriculture to industry and its effort to expand participation of all its citizens in the political process.

Week 1, 3rd Nine Weeks

Welcome back!!  I hope that you all had a fabulous Christmas holiday and enjoyed lots of rest and relaxation.  This week we will begin a whole new nine weeks and our unit on women's suffrage. A couple of our days this week will be devoted to bootcamp to get students ready for their benchmark tests next week, therefore our assignments this week will be few and scattered out. 
Monday: No school! Professional development day.
Tuesday: No assignments today, bootcamp day. 
Wednesday: Students will be given a new project today known as the Amendment Project. Students will be given an Amendment to the Constitution to write a paper on, plus they will be required to complete a creative component to the Amendment.  This may include writing a poem, a comic book strip, a song, performing a song, rap, making a movie, or any other creative component of their choosing that is approved by the teacher. This project will be due on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023. Students will be given a list of important vocabulary terms, people, and dates for this unit to define and list key details about. Students will work on this for the remainder of the class period today and be due on Monday.  Students will also continue to do Supreme Court Cases throughout the nine weeks. Court Case #19 will be due this Friday. Students will receive an article “Aint I a Woman?” to read and answer the questions following the passage.
Thursday: Students will be broken up into 5 groups. Each group will have a source document to analyze and answer questions about. Groups will work collectively to read each source, determine why the source was written, and try to understand the meaning of each document. Each group must turn in answers from every member of the group. Students will also be given a worksheet to complete, “The Fight For Women’s Suffrage Worksheet” that tells the story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her fight for women’s suffrage. Students will complete the worksheet given in class today: “The Fight For Women’s Suffrage” if not finished in class today. The students will continue to work on the vocab list, as well as their Supreme Court Case. Students should also be continuously working on their Amendment Project. 
Friday: No assignments today, bootcamp day.

It is their Nine Weeks Exam!!

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be covering Chapter 8: Revolt of the Rednecks, 1900 Homework and assignments for the week are as follows:
Monday: They will also have their last Supreme Court Case of the nine weeks This packet, if completed correctly, will be worth 10 points added to any test grade from this nine weeks This is the last Supreme Court Case of the nine weeks.

Week 6, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be finishing up Chapter 7: The Bourbon Era and preparing for a chapter test at the end of the week. Homework and assignments for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Today students will begin discussing Chapter 7, Section 3. Discussion will begin on Section 3 on page 203 of the textbook and a power point presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will also be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for this section of the chapter. Students need to complete the Guided Reading for Section 3 if it was not finished in class. Students also need to have Supreme Court Case #16 ready to turn in Friday.
Tuesday: Students will draw a political cartoon today in class that pertains to the Civil War, how the Civil War affected the state of MS, how these long term effects were felt, or what Reconstruction might have looked like for the state of Mississippi at that time.  Cartoons should have a use of symbolism in them, be titled, have a phrase or some type of wording (this may come from a picture on the wall, something else written somewhere in the cartoon, be spoken words coming from a person in the picture, etc. Cartoons should be colorful and detailed. Questions to consider when coming up with a cartoon: What will the cartoon be about? Who are the main people involved in the event? How will you symbolize the groups or people involved to make them recognizable? What words or phrases will you use to communicate the message? What side of the event are you on? Students will also be given a chapter 7 study guide to complete when they finish their political cartoon. Students will need to complete their political cartoons for homework tonight if they were not finished in class today. Students also need to work on their study guide for Chapter 7. It is due on Thursday. 
Wednesday: Today students will complete several worksheets in class, Ch 7 Fill in the Blank, Ch 7 Reading Comprehension, and Ch 7 Vocabulary Review. The 3 worksheets will be turned in today for a grade. If the students complete all the worksheets early in class, they will do the Understanding the Facts questions 1-10 on page 209 in the textbook. STudents will need to work on their study guide for Chapter 7 to prepare for the test on Friday. Students also need to have their Supreme Court Case 16 ready to turn in Friday.
Thursday: Students will be given the entire class period today to work on their Chapter 7 study guide. Students will work independently through chapter 7, sections 1-3 to complete the study guide and answer the questions for each section. Students will need to read Chapter to 7 to prepare for a chapter test tomorrow. Students will need to complete the study guide that was given in class today for homework and have their Supreme Court Case #16 ready to turn in on Friday. 
Friday: Students will take a test on Chapter 7: The Bourbon Era today. After the test is completed, students will take a closer look at the Gettysburg Address. What was it? Why was it given?  What did it mean? Students will receive a copy of the Gettysburg address to read and analyze today in class.  For extra credit, the students may memorize the Gettysburg address to earn an extra 20 bonus points that will be added to any test. Students will be given one full week to learn this. Students may recite the Gettysburg Address any time from Monday December 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Week 5, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in MS Studies we will begin looking at Chapter 7: The Bourbon Era.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete for section 1. Students need to complete the Guided Reading for Section 1 if it was not finished in class. Students will need to work on their Civil War Battle Project that is due this Friday, Nov 18th. They will also have Supreme Court Case 16 due Friday.
Tuesday: Students will be given this time to work on their Civil War Battle Slideshows, write their two page papers concerning the other topic covered by the students, make their timeline, or complete the other option required (newspaper articles, diary entries, or political cartoons. Students need to have their Civil War Battle Project completed by this Friday, November 18th. Students also have a supreme court case due on Friday for their Supreme Court Case binder. 
Wednesday: Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete for section 2. Students need to complete the Guided Reading for Section 2 if it was not finished in class.
Thursday: Students will use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the four constitutions of Mississippi and explain the reasons for their development. For this purpose, four circles must be included in the students diagram and include the original Constitution of 1817, the Constitution of 1832, the Constitution of 1868, and the present day Constitution of 1890. If the students finish their Venn diagram, they may work on their Supreme Court Case or their Civil War Battle Project that is due tomorrow. Students will need to finish the Venn diagram that was assigned in class today if it was not completed. Students will turn in Civil War Battle Projects tomorrow!!  as well as their Supreme Court Case for this week.
Friday: Today is the official turn in day for their Civil War Battle Projects.  All students will turn in projects today. Students will be given class time to make any additional parts to their project. Students will also turn in Supreme Court Case #16 today.

Week 4, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in MS Studies students will be completing chapter 6 and begin looking at Chapter 7.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows: 
Monday: Students will begin looking at Chapter 6, Section 3 today on page 170 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will receive a guided reading assignment to complete as we conclude the powerpoint for section 3. Students will need to read Chapter 6, Section 3 of the textbook and complete the Chapter Summary given in class today if it was not completed in class. Students also need to continue working on their Civil War Battle Project. 
Tuesday: Students will be given a worksheet on civil war battlefields in Mississippi to complete in class for classwork. Students will then be given a study guide today to complete for review of Chapter 6 materials to prepare for a test on Thursday. Students will work independently through chapter 6, sections 1-3 to complete the study guide and answer the questions for each section. Students will need to read Chapter to 6 to begin preparation for a chapter test on Chapter 6 on Thursday. Students will need to work on the study guide that was given in class by to have it completed for studying purposes. They will also need to be continuously working on their Civil War Battle projects that are due next Friday, Nov 18th. 
Wednesday: Students will be given the entire class period today to work on their study guide for Chapter 6, independently going through each section of the chapter to complete the study guide. If the students complete their study guide, they may use the remainder of the class time to work on their Supreme Court Case, # 15, which is due Friday. Study, study, study!!  Chapter 6 test tomorrow!!  Students will need to read Chapter 6 in the textbook and study for a Chapter 6 test. Students also need to have their Supreme Court Case ready to turn in Friday and be continuously working on their Civil War Battle Project.
Thursday: Students will take a test on Chapter 6: The Civil War and Reconstruction, 1861-1876. After the completion of the test, students will be given the remainder of the class period to work on their Civil War Battle Project that is due next Friday, Nov 18th. Students need to be continuously working on their Civil War Project that is due on Friday November 12th. Supreme Court Case #15 is due tomorrow!!
Friday: Students will be given a list of vocabulary and important terms for the upcoming Chapter 7. Vocabulary will no longer be turned in or graded, therefore it is up to the students to be responsible for knowing the terms for discussion of the chapter and test purposes. Students may also use this time to work on their Civil War Battle Project, which is due next Friday, November 18th. Supreme Court cases are due every Friday, and Civil War Battle Project due next Friday, November 18th.

Week 3, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be starting Chapter 6: Civil War and Reconstruction, 1861-1876. Students will have the following assignments for homework and classwork:
Monday: Students will begin today with a set of worksheets that will conclude Chapter 5, the succession of Mississippi from the Union, and lead into Chapter 6 where we will talk in detail about the events of the Civil War. Worksheet 1 is entitled The 1850’s: Crisis and Compromise. This sheet will show a progression of acts and compromises and how each one only prolonged the inevitable Civil War. Worksheet 2, American Sectionalism & The Path to War, will again show some of the same Compromises and laws that came to be during this time, but also ask how it increased sectionalism between the North and South. Worksheet 3, The Road to Civil War, will give the students a list of dates that will need to be matched with the event that took place, what happened, and how it led to the war. Students may begin reading and looking into Chapter 6 to prepare for the Civil War and the many battles and events that took place during these years. Students will need to have all 3 worksheets from class completed and turned in for homework tomorrow. Students will also receive Chapter 6 Vocabulary List 2 today.  This vocab list is due on Thursday.  Students will have a vocabulary test on Friday on LIST 1 and LIST 2!!!!  Students will also have two Supreme Court Cases due this week, Case 14 and 15, due on Friday.
Tuesday: Students will be assigned a new project today on a famous Civil War Battle. Students will be assigned battles and have two weeks to complete this project.  The due date will be, Wednesday, November 16, 2022. Students will begin Chapter 6: Civil War and Reconstruction, 1861-1876 today starting with Section 1 on page 156 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 6, Section 1 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will need to read Chapter 6, Section 1 of the textbook and complete the Chapter Summary given in class today if it was not completed in class. Students will also be given a worksheet to complete for homework, Differences between the Northern and Southern States. Students also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 found on page 159 of the textbook. Students are to write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!! Students also need to be working on the vocab that is due on Thursday. 
Wednesday: Students will be given a worksheet to complete in class today on famous union and confederate generals in Mississippi, Students will be allowed to use the remainder of the class period today to work on the Chapter 6 Vocab List 2 that is due on Thursday. Students also need to be reminded that they will have a test on both lists of words on Friday!!!!   Students may also use this time to work on their Supreme Court case that is due on Friday as well.  Or they may choose to get a head start on their Civil War Project.  This is a working class period!! Students also need to complete the vocab that is due on Thursday. Don't forget about the Supreme Court Cases and the vocab test on Friday!!  Also be working on your Civil War Battle!!!
Thursday: Students will cover Chapter 6 Section 2 today starting on page 160 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 6, Section 2 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. If there is time left after completing the Guided Reading, students will be allowed to work on their Supreme Court Cases that are due tomorrow. Students will need to read Chapter 6, Section 2 of the textbook and complete the Chapter Summary given in class today if it was not completed in class. Students also need to have their Supreme Court Cases ready to turn in tomorrow. Students also need to answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 found on page 169 of the textbook. Students are to write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!! Students also need to study for the vocab test tomorrow!
Friday: Students will have a vocabulary quiz today on List 1 and List 2 from Chapter 6. Many of these words are pulled over from Chapters 4 and 5 also. They all tie into the material being covered at this time. Students will use the remainder of the class period today to work on their Civil War Battle Project that is due on November 12th. Students may also use this time to work on anything that needs to be worked on from this week. If they have an assignment that was not turned in, this is the time to get it completed and turned in.  No excuses…. Time has been given this week to work in class. Students need to be continuously working on their Civil War Battle Projects and stay on top of their Supreme Court Binders with 1 to 2 cases due per week (depending on what the teacher assigns per week.)

Week 1, 2nd Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be beginning Chapter 5: Antebellum Mississippi, where we will look at Mississippi from its creation as a state in 1798 until the Civil War.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows: 
 
Monday: Students will begin discussing Chapter 5: Antebellum Mississippi today. Discussion will begin on page 126 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section will be covered orally in class. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for this chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 5 Section 1 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. After the class discussion for Section 1, students will be given a vocabulary list for Chapter 5. This vocabulary list should be defined using the textbook and Chapter 5 only. Using google will NOT give the meaning that is intended for these terms as they are used in Chapter 5. Vocabulary will be due on Thursday! Students will need to read Chapter 5, Section 1 of the textbook and complete the Guided Reading given in class today if it was not completed in class. Students also need to be working on the vocabulary worksheet to define the words listed there. Vocabulary is due on Thursday. Students also need to  answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 found on  page 132 of the textbook. Students must write questions and answers. Students will also begin this week having 2 Supreme Court Cases per week!  Cases 10 and 11 are due on Friday!
 
Tuesday: Students will continue discussing Chapter 5: Antebellum Mississippi today with section 2. Discussion will begin on page 134 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section will be covered orally in class. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for this chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 5 Section 2 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will be given a worksheet to complete in class after the completion of Chapter 5, Section 2 called Short Answer.  Students are to answer the questions using complete sentences from the chapter.  

Students will need to read Chapter 5, Section 2 of the textbook and complete the Chapter Summary that was given in class today if it was not completed then. Students will also need to complete the Short Answer worksheet from class today for homework if it was not complete in class.  Also, students should be continuously working on the vocabulary that is due on Thursday! Students should answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 located on page 143 of the textbook. Students should write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!

Wednesday: Students will begin today with a short review of material learned in sections 1 and 2 of chapter 5. Prompt for a thinking question: Students are to look at page 136 of the textbook.  If the cause is a rapid expansion of cotton fields in the 1830’s, what is the effect? Next, students will explore the living conditions of slaves by exploring the Eustatia (Mississippi) cotton plantation account book found at the website www.pbs.org/wnet/slavery/experience/living/feature.html. Students will write down 10 facts they learned about the daily life of slaves from this primary source. Students will then visit the website http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/pds/maai/enslavement/text3/plantationhughes.pdf. Students will write a 1 paragraqph description of the construction, furnishings, and layout of the slave cabin as Hughes described it. Students will need to complete the Understanding the Facts questions 1-10 located on page 151. Students are to write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!! Vocabulary is also due tomorrow!! Students will need to complete the 10 facts gathered from exploring the slave journal today in class and their 1 paragraph description of the construction, furnishings, and layout of the slave cabin as described by Hughes.

Thursday: Students will cover Section 3 of Chapter 5 today starting on page 144 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for this section of the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer any questions about Chapter 5 section 3 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will turn to page 148 in their textbook. Students will analyze the map of the presidential candidates and the amount of electoral votes each candidate received. How many electoral votes are there now? How many were there then? How many did each candidate win? Who was the winner? Now divide the electoral votes won by each candidate by the total number of electoral votes to determine the percentage of the nation that was won by each candidate. Students will write these questions on a sheet of paper to answer and turn in. Students will also have a vocabulary review worksheet to complete in class or for homework. Students will need to read Chapter 5, Section 3 of the textbook and complete the Chapter Summary given in class today if it was not completed in class. Students also need to finish answering the questions and analysis of the electoral votes on page 148 and complete the vocabulary review worksheet. Students also need to  answer the Reviewing the Section questions 1-3 found on  page 149 of the textbook. Students are to write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!! Don't forget about Supreme Court Cases 10 and 11 due tomorrow!!

Friday: Students will be given a study guide today to complete for review of Chapter 5 materials to prepare for a test on Wednesday.  Students will work independently through Chapter 5, Sections 1-3 to complete the study guide and answer the questions for each section. Students will need to begin reading Chapter 5 to prepare for the Chapter 5 test on Wednesday. Students are to complete the Chapter 5 study guide by Tuesday to study for the test on Wednesday.

Week 7, 1st Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be starting chapter 4: From Territory to State.  We will discuss how the territory that was known as the Mississippi Territory became the state of Mississippi and many other things that determined the culture, shape, and outcome of the state of Mississippi. Assignments and homework for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 4 Section 1 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will be given a worksheet to complete, The Role of Compromise, to discuss the short term and long term effects of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850.  If this worksheet is not completed in class, it will need to be completed for homework. Students will read Chapter 4 Section 1 of the textbook and complete the Guided Reading given in class today if it was not completed in class.  This also applies to the worksheet given, The Role of Compromises. Students will answer the 3 Reviewing the Section questions located on page 102 of the textbook. Students must write QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. Supreme Court Case #7 will also be due this Friday. 
Tuesday: Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 4 Section 2 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will be given a worksheet to complete, John Brown’s Final Statement to the Court.  Students will read the statement and answer the questions that follow. Students need to complete the guided reading assigned in class today and also the worksheet, John Brown’s Final Statement to the Court if not completed in class. Students will also need to complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions located on page 111. Students are to write QUESTIONS and ANSWERS.
Wednesday: Students will have a short discussion on Aaron Burr and discuss what they thought about the conspiracy he was involved in? What was the importance of the letter written to General James Wilkinson? The class will then read an account of The Treason Trial of Aaron Burr together and discuss the conspiracy, the trial, and the aftermath. Students will then be given a worksheet to complete on what was read in class. Students will also be given a copy of the reading to complete the questions for homework if not finished in class.  Students may google some of the answers to the questions if they can not find them in the reading. Students may need to reread the account of the Burr conspiracy and trial to complete the questions on the worksheet. Complete the short answer questions on the worksheet about Aaron Burr and the conspiracy surrounding them. 
Thursday: Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be prepared to answer questions about Chapter 4 Section 3 through class discussion and any notes that may be taken. Students will be given a vocabulary review worksheet to complete in class. If this worksheet is not completed in class, it must be completed for homework. Students will read Chapter 4 Section 1 of the textbook and complete the Guided Reading given in class today if it was not completed in class.  This also applies to the worksheet given, The Role of Compromises. Students will also need to complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions located on page 119. Students are to write QUESTIONS and ANSWERS.
Friday: Students will be introduced to an activity on the Dredd Scott case. The students will have a discussion on the feelings they would have if they were treated a certain way just because they were owned. The teacher will read a short biography of Dredd Scott and the class will discuss what life was like for these slaves. Then the class will read the Dred Scott Decision delivered by Chief Justice Taney (handout) and discuss the outcome. Is it fair? Was it unfair? Why do you think that? Students will write 2 editorials in response to the Dred Scott decision; one from a post-slavery Southern perspective, and the other from an anit-slavery abolitionit Northern perspective. Make sure the students entitle their editorials with headlines phrased similar to how newspaper articles are titled. Information should be accurate. Editorials should include headlines and state a position. Students will answer the 6 questions following the Dred Scott decision for homework.

Week 6, 1st Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will be finishing up Chapter 3: Early European Explorers and preparing for a chapter test on Friday.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows:
Monday: Students will be given a study guide today that covers Chapter 3, Sections 1-4. Students will work independently for the remainder of the class period to answer the questions correctly to help prepare them for a Chapter test on Friday. Students need to continue reading to prepare for a chapter test on Friday! The best way to prepare for a chapter test is by reading the chapter. Students need to complete the study guide given in class today by Thursday.
Tuesday: Students will spend time today working in class  on their Early Explorer Projects where they will focus on the one explorer they were assigned in class. Students will work to complete the 17 slide presentation and meet all requirements of the project. Early Explorer projects are due this Friday, September 16th. This time is being given for students who may have lots of extracurricular activities and may not have wife or computer access at their homes. Students need to be continuously working on their Early Explorer Projects that are due on Friday, September 16th. No additional homework will be given tonight to allow students to work more on their projects. 
Wednesday: Students will spend a few minutes today looking at events that led to the revolutionary war.  These events put into motion the United States becoming an independent nation and being self sustaining. The students will be given 2 articles to read today: The Stamp Act Controversy and the Townshend Acts. Students will read these articles together aloud with the class (popcorn read). Then the students will watch a short video on the Boston Tea Party at Boston Massacre - YouTube. Students will then read a short article on Paul Revere and the Boston Massacre. After looking at the previous sources and videos and talking about events that took place, the students will be given time to work on either their Early Explorer Project, which is due Friday, or their chapter 3 study guide that is due on Thursday Students will need to be continuously working on their Early Explorer Project that is due Friday, Sept. 16th. Students will also need to complete the study guide for Chapter 3. We will go over study guides orally in class tomorrow to ensure that all students have the correct answers to study for the Chapter 3 test.
Thursday: Students will prepare today for a test on Chapter 3, The European Period, 1540-1798 tomorrow. The class will review the study guide today orally to ensure that each student has the correct answers in order to study and do well on the test. Chapter 3 test tomorrow!! Study study study!!! Early Explorer Projects are also due tomorrow!! Students need to study and prepare for a Chapter 3 test tomorrow!
Friday: Students will conclude Chapter 3 today with a chapter test and begin Chapter 4 with an in depth vocabulary set to jumpstart the material in this chapter. Students will take a test on Chapter 3: The European Period: 1540-1798. Students will be given a vocabulary list for Chapter 4:From Territory to Early Statehood, 1798-1860. Students are to define, identify, and list important aspects such as dates, places, or people for each particular term. Students will need to complete the vocabulary that were given in class today.  Vocabulary is due on Monday.

Week 1, 1st Nine Weeks

This week in Mississippi Studies we will begin Chapter 1: The Geography of MS.  Students will begin to complete daily assignments as well as weekly assignments such as Supreme Court Cases.  Homework and assignments for the week are as follows:
Monday: Discussion will begin today on Chapter 1, Section 1 detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be given a list of vocabulary to define for Chapter 1.  Students should list important details, identify, and define the important terms.  Vocabulary will be due on Thursday. Students will answer the 3 Reviewing the Section question located on page 7 of the textbook. Students are to write questions and answers. Students are to complete the Guided Reading given in class today for section 1 if it was not completed in class, as well as continuously be working on the vocabulary list that is due on Thursday.  
Tuesday: Today students will begin discussing Chapter 1: The Geography of Mississippi, Section 2: Fair Weather.  Discussion will begin on Section 2 on page 8 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be given a blank map of the state of Mississippi with directions for the students to follow. Students will label reservoirs, draw and label a compass rose, star the capital, and various other important details with the states. Students will complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions located on page 13 of the textbook. Students are to write questions and answers. Students are to complete the Guided Reading given in class today for section 2 if it was not completed in class, as well as continuously be working on the vocabulary list that is due on Thursday. Students must also complete the worksheet map that was given in class today if not completed.  
Wednesday:  Today students will begin discussing Chapter 1: The Geography of Mississippi, Section 3: Fertile Soil.  Discussion will begin on Section 3 on page 14 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be given a worksheet to complete: Using Geography Skills, Mississippi in the United States.  Students will complete the 3 Reviewing the Section questions located on page 24 of the textbook. Students are to write questions and answers. Students are to complete the Guided Reading given in class today for section 3 if it was not completed in class, as well as continuously be working on the vocabulary list that is due on Thursday. Students must also complete the worksheet that was given in class today if not completed.
Thursday: Students will be assigned a Hurricane Project that will compare and contrast the two most devastating storms to affect the state of MS, Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Katrina. Students must compose a 14 slide presentation using Google Slides or PowerPoint to present the information.  This project will be due on Friday, August 20th, 2021 Students will be given an interactive worksheet A Place Called Mississippi.  It includes websites that will assist the students with completing the worksheet. If the students do not finish this activity, they will finish for homework. Students will also need to complete the interactive worksheet that was given in class today, A Place Called Mississippi, if it was not finished in class today.  
Friday: Today students will begin discussing Chapter 1: The Geography of Mississippi, Section 4:  Natural Resources.  Discussion will begin on Section 4 on page 26 of the textbook and a powerpoint presentation detailing the key points and important terms found in this section. Students will be given a guided reading assignment to complete as they take individual notes for the chapter. Students will be given a worksheet to complete, a vocabulary review to help review important terms for a chapter test next Wednesday.  Students need to be continuously working on their Hurricane Project.  This project is due Friday, August 19th.  Students will also need to complete the Reviewing the Section Questions 1-3 located on page 33 of the textbook. Students are to write questions and answers. Students will need to complete the work sheet given in class today for homework, a review of vocabulary terms, if it was not completed in class today.  The students first Supreme Court case of the year, Court Case #1, Marbury vs Madison, is due today also!
